History of the Club

History

The opportunity for youth netball first started within the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) at the Magnet Leisure Centre in the 1990's. This proved so popular that a second venue, Charters, assisted with the high demand for local netball sessions. Finally with the demand still increasing the RBWM introduced a third site at Windsor. For several years these clubs operated independently then in 2008 formed a combined netball club, where they achieved the SILVER Clubmark. In May 2013, due to the ever increasing demand and the expertise of the coaches the Magnet Netball Club decided to re-launch itself as an individual club. However this meant redefining and rebranding itself and starting at the bottom of the Clubmark recognition procedure. They became a registered Clubmark Club on 8th April 2013.

Since 2013

From when we started in 2013 the Magnet Netball Club (Known as Magnets) were delighted to achieve the BRONZE Clubmark Award on 27th November 2013 offering weekly netball sessions for players from Yr 2 (U7's) to Yr 9 (U14's). We also offered >Yr 10 opportunities to play in the Adult Netball League at Kidwells Park, Maidenhead. Along side the recreational aspect of the club we ran (where applicable) a competition squad. Starting with 2 junior competition squads in U11 and U12 competing in the Berkshire Junior League on Sundays and supplied a new competition club kit from February 2014.

Present Day

From 2013 the club grew and we were able to offer a recreational and development group for Yr 2 -> Yr 5 and recreational and competition groups from Yr 6 - Yr 10 with a large coaching contingency. We then gained our SILVER Clubmark Award on 4th April 2017.

We continued as a large club until the Club was forced to close for several months when the COVID Pandemic hit the world in March 2020. We were able to re-open 'out doors', for competition groups only in the Summer of 2020 and fully opened 'indoors' applying COVID restriction/rules, by Sept 2020. However, due to a change of venue to the new Braywick Leisure Centre and the loss of several coaching staff we could no longer resource recreational/general netball sessions. It was therefore decided that the Club would become smaller offering only competition netball from U11 (Yr 6) to U19.

In order for the recreational/general netball sessions to continue we negotiated a Partnership with a new local Trust 'Leisure Focus' to take these over. Leisure Focus started to operate out of Braywick, Cox Green, Furze Platt, Windsor and Charters Leisure Centres.

The netball sessions have now been running, very successfully, every week, at the Furze Platt Leisure Centre on Monday evenings. They are catering for all ages group from Yr 3 to Yr 9. If you are interested in joining, please use the CONTACT FORM.

By April 2022 we were pleased to finally be able to deliver sessions without any COVID restrictions outdoors or indoors..

We pride ourselves on having our emphasis on coaching, playing and improving personal skill levels whilst being in a friendly environment. All our coaches are dedicated people who want to allow any player of any standard the opportunity to play, learn and enjoy netball. Whilst at the same time identifying any potential players and guide them through the development programmes that are available through England Netball.
